Massage therapy is manual manipulation of muscles, connective tissues, tendons and ligaments to enhance a person’s health and well-being. At Active Care Wellness Center our patients are treated with massage therapy for a variety of reasons – to reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles, rehabilitate injuries, reduce pain, and promote overall health and wellness.
When people think of getting a massage, they are usually thinking of Swedish massage. The main purpose of Swedish massage is to promote full body relaxation. A massage cream or oil is used to facilitate the long, gliding strokes that are meant to promote circulation and relaxation. Light pressure is used regardless of the technique making this the perfect type of massage for beginners or patients looking for stress management and relaxation.
Deep Tissue Massage
If you like deep pressure, this is the massage for you. While similar to Swedish massage, deep tissue massage focuses on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, fascia and tendons. Deep tissue massage helps to break up chronic muscle tightness and improve healing. We recommend patients that are new to deep tissue start off slowly to prevent unnecessary soreness.
Sports massage is a specialized form of massage therapy that focuses on areas of the body that are often over-used and stressed from repetitive and aggressive movements. Using manual pressure and stretching techniques, sports massage is ideal for sports or overuse injuries. Sports massage is perfect for athletes and weekend warriors alike as well as being a great complement to rehabilitation.
Prenatal massage, also known as pregnancy massage, promotes relaxation and eases the aches and pains associated with pregnancy. Patients are positioned to maximize their comfort during the treatment while ensuring a safe position for their baby.
